Hesketh Colts u10 v Southport Gold u10
4/10/2020. 12.00
Meols Field
Our first home game of the season was a repeat of a friendly we had only 2 weeks ago in which a 12 goal score draw thriller occurred.
A change in formation for this game allowed us to have more players in the centre of the pitch and by having athletic wing backs allowed us to dominate the ball further up the pitch. Unlike Liverpool our defenders can defend....
The game kicked off on a lovely early autumn afternoon and Colts quickly started on the front foot. The pressing from the front put Southport under alot of early pressure and that pressure continued for the rest of the game.
The pressure eventually paid off and from a series of corners our first goal came. A lovely lofted corner by Harry was met by a salmon like leap from newly recruited winger Linden at the back post.
Colts pushed forward and piled on the pressure but failed to take numerous chances before half time. It was time to make subs and we put on all 5 before half time and kept that team well into the 2nd half with Bobbie being the standout performer chesting the ball down in his own half and driving forward past 2 defenders and hit a thunderbolt which nearly broke the crossbar. Confidence was running through the team now with Charlie having a few chances and hitting the woodwork twice. It was William who came alive eventually after a quiet game picked the ball up on the left and dribbled past 2 defenders and then playing a 1-2 with Charlie slotted the ball into the bottom left to make it 2.
With the team becoming tired after relentless attack after attack we got sloppy at the back leaving Reece isolated with 2 strikers and Southport scored on the break to make it 2-1. It was time to change and we made 5 changes bringing fresh legs and new ideas onto the pitch. It was clear that Ryan was carrying an injury so he had to come back off.
The goal didn't affect us and we carried on pushing forward making chance after chance and the pressure paid off with Colts scoring 3 more goals with Oliver getting a brace and Ben completed the scoring.
Great effort by the whole squad with Boobie and Reece the standout players with Reece getting a well deserved man of the match.
Onto next week for a stern test against Redgate.
