Back at Smithy Green against Formby with sun trying to burst out and the Colts girls looking to build on their first win. Before the match kicked off there was a minute silence due to the sad news of the Queen's death, both teams and supporters observing the silence with the respect it deserved. The game started with a brand new Formby team dominating the first few minutes after a sleepy start from the Colts. And within 3 minutes from kick off it was 1-0 Formby with a ball over the top and a simple finish. A rocky start to say the least.

But as the game went on the Colts started to get a hold of the ball and dominate possession. The first clean cut chance came from a corner and although the Jess had the goal at their mercy it was clipped over the bar. But on 11 minutes, after a smart move in the middle of the park Georgia slid in Jess again and this time she made sure, tucking the ball to the left of the keeper to make it 1-1! Game on and the Colts confidence started to build. Faye and Ellen were finding more and more space on either wing and looking very dangerous, suddenly Formby were on the back foot. At the back Daisymae and Liv were winning all the balls in the middle, linking up well with the midfield and feeding the balls to the wings. And on 38 minutes after a clear foul and a Colts free kick, the game swung the other way. Georgia clipped the free kick in testing the keeper who spilled the ball, and Erin C was the first to react, driving in and slotting the ball home to make it 2-1 to the Colts.

Cassie at right back and Erin L at left back both contained their wingers and started finding more balls down the line to ease pressure on the defence. Mia came on for the last 10 mins of the first half to add some energy in the middle of the pitch and shore things up. Chelsea pushed on the wing to try an unlock Formby further. Ellie in goal was having another solid game and her kicking was finding better distance and Colts players out wide. Also made a few crucial saves when Formby did break the line of defence. Towards the end of the first half though there were some danger signs with Formby trying to find the through balls or balls over the top of the Colts defence.

So 2-1 up at half time, but still the Colts had a job to do to secure the points. The second half the Colts certainly dominated possession and played some tidy football. Looking much more solid than the first game. However we made hard work of the scoreline with some interesting finishing! We know what we will be working on at training! Erin C driving down the left and finding Ellen free in the box, but it went over the bar! Chelsea, Faye, Cassie also all put through for chances, but the goal just wouldn't seem to come. Chance after chance went by and we started to wonder it it was going to be one of those days! However in the 79th minute Colts made it 3-1 when Faye skipped past defenders and clipped the ball into the back of the net. The cushion of the 3rd goal gave the Colts a bit more freedom to play. Tanya came on at left back after a break away to add some leadership to the back line. Alex slotted in at centre half and put in a real fight at the back when needed. Finally the ref blew for the final result 3-1 to the Colts.

Overall a deserved win. We certainly defended better, didn't give away as many chances. Also compared to the last game we played better football as team, something we need to build on now. We created a lot of 1 on 1 chances that on another day would have increased our lead significantly. So things to build on, the team spirit is good and the girls are starting to gel as a team. Some mentions to Erin L who put in a solid performance at full back. Daisymae who made sure she was the first to every ball and cut out the through balls with her pace when they did get through. And girl of the game of game went to Erin C for always providing that link play to the attacking and driving the team forward when needed. Another great win and we are proud of the way the team has adapted to the new league setup. We go again next week against Liverpool University.
